Halloween

31st October 09

I know I know, its bar humbug and all that, but I really don’t like Halloween, which is a nightmare when you have young boys!  I don’t like being scared for a start, and really and true-fully, unless you’re a wicker it is pure commercialism.  Sweets and polyester – thats all it is!

However, I do have two boys who embrace all the commercialism with gusto, so we have done parties, fancy dress, face paint and of course, lots of horrific looking sweets.

And pumpkins (and oranges)

Now this bit I love, the boys did the pumpkin, first time i’ve let them do it, god I was terrifyed – a sharpe knife and brut force in a 6 year olds hands?  But they were great, and they absolutly loved doing it.  The downside to them getting bigger and being allowed to do stuff though is that I didn’t get to have a go… hence the oranges!  Which got me thinking, I might do some for Christmas – with less spooky designs, and they do smell nice!

This is from my (small) stall at the craft fair in Dinas Powys last Saturday, and to be fair, the set up didn’t change much during the day – but ever the optermist, I nearly finished another scarf while I was there!  Also, a lovely lady with a gallery in Pontyclun loved my stuff, and might be stocking it soon, so, every cloud eh!

Also, Gemma, my button swap partner finally recived her parcel, only 3 weeks to get from South Wales to London!  I can finally post some pics of what I sent now.  I tried a new idea for the necklace and I’ve been dying to know what she thought … she loves it!  So I’m going to explore some variations of it that have been brewing in my mind, so here are some pics, I’m off experimenting – have a good week all!

As well as the jewellery, I sent some white chocolate (her favourite) a handmade notebook, some vintage fastenings, beads, some brilliant stickers that really reminded me of her work and of course, some relaxing tea!

Just some pretty pictures

I’m all ready for the craft fair on Saturday, and everything is tidyed away so I’m almost, note the almost, at a lost end.  I could find lots of useful things to do; cleaning, tidying, finding lost things etc etc, but then I remembered some photos I’d taken last weekend when we went camping in Dorset with some friends.  We’ve never really done the South before – but it is fimly a new favourite, we will definitely be going back!

Remember a while back I mentioned that I had some hopefully exciting yet secret news?  Well, it was confirmed yesterday, I’m going to be in next months Beads and Beyond magazine!  I sent in a tutorial for a crocheted necklace – and they liked it!

Just a short post as I need to continue alternating between screaming and dancing – speak soon!

Busy, busy, busy!

8th October 09

Just a quick post as I’m off to work in a minute, but I’ve just finished a new batch of earrings and brooches for a craft fair next Saturday, (in Dinas Powys if anyone is in the area!) that I’m really pleased with, so much in fact that I had to make an extra pair of the green earrings for me!

I have to thank my good friend Rita really for the inspiration for these.  She went back to Hungary in the summer and brought me back lots and lots of gorgeous crochet cottons, and when I finally started tidying up the spare room, (note - started, not finished!) and I sorted them all out into a box, they looked so lush , all those vibrant colours together, it just got my mind racing… and here are some of the results

Also I got my part of the fabulous button jewellery swap organised by incy of incywincy today, from Gemma of Jimjamsandwich.  How lucky am I, I love the vintage button brooch, it goes perfect with my jacket, the chocs are yummy and I have several ideas already for those extra buttons!

Got to love the creative community!

2nd October 09

Well, after all those wonderful comments on yesterdays post, about how tidy my work space actually is, I thought ‘whats the rush’!  Also, it being the first inset day of the year I don’t actually need to find anything today… so we went to the beach!

Rest Bay to be precise, another favourite especially this time of the year.  We wrapped up and went exploring.

And climbing.

And obviously, had a game of football.

And found some more inspiration!

As with all my photos, if you click on them they will enlarge.  This last one has lots of potential, which is unfortunate.   I am going to have to tidy the room now so I can find my #1 hook.

Out of chaos comes order?

Please…

img_2528

No, I haven’t been burgled, it is time to admit defeat, give in, grab the bull by the horns, yes, stop procrastinating and tidy the back room/my work space.

img_2530

I’m not sure what my work space says about me, and its probably best I don’t know, but I’m sick of not being able to find anything.

I’m working on the theory that by putting it in print, I’ll have to finish the task, and the complete embarrassment should be enough.  I may be some time…
